Optical Flow and Principal Component Analysis-Based Motion Detection in Outdoor Videos

In this paper, we propose a joint optical flow and principal component analysis (PCA) method for motion detection. PCA is used to analyze optical flows so that major optical flows corresponding to moving objects in a local window can be better extracted. This joint approach can efficiently detect moving objects and more successfully suppress small turbulence. It is particularly useful for motio...

Real Time Video Based Smoke Detection Using Double Optical Flow Estimation

In this paper, we present a video based smoke detection algorithm based on TVL1 optical flow estimation. The main part of the algorithm is an accumulating system for motion angles and upward motion speed of the flow field. We optimized the usage of TVL1 flow estimation for the detection of smoke with very low smoke density. Therefore, we use adapted flow parameters and estimate the flow field o...

Fast motion detection from airborne videos using graphics processing unit

In our previous work, we proposed a joint optical flow and principal component analysis (PCA) approach to improve the performance of optical flow based detection, where PCA is applied on the calculated two-dimensional optical flow image, and motion detection is accomplished by a metric derived from the two eigenvalues. To reduce the computational time when processing airborne videos, parallel c...

Motion based Event Analysis

Motion is an important cue in videos that captures the dynamics of moving objects. It helps in effective analysis of various event related tasks such as human action recognition, anomaly detection, tracking, crowd behavior analysis, traffic monitoring, etc. Generally, accurate motion information is computed using various optical flow estimation techniques. On the other hand, coarse motion infor...
